I got a New F2 Cuban Cichlid from Jeff Rapps (tangled up in cichlids) and was wondering how big they really get and give some more INFO and IF people who have them can post some pics up so i can see what they look like when they get BIG this is my new fav. Fish and I wanna get another one But I dont know if I should or not Help me please

most about 8" they are a thick fish and great choice.I have one now but it still a Juvenile .

Cubans are great fish with awesome personality. Males usually top out at around 10" and females usually between 6-8". One guy on here had one that was 12" but I believe the fish was like a decade old. Cubans are absolutely nasty to eachother so unless you plan on pairing them up I would stick with 1. I had 5 in a 125 and they basically killed eachother down to the pair I have now. They share the tank with a pair of Midas and hold their own well with the larger fish. These fish are always out and about and constantly chase the 6 silver dollars I have. These guys prefer warmer water(low-mid 80's).

My fish are nowhere near full grown but they are stunning non the less. My male is 4-4.5" and female is 3-3.5"

They grow extremely slowly after they hit the 6-7" mark. My male is a few years old and I've never measured him but I can tell you he isn't 14".

I'm curious, are you sure they are F2? Who owned the wild caught parents?

As far as sexing them, you can see in both pictures posted here of pairs that females will have much more black and are a bit fatter and less elongated. If you are keeping a single fish, I would definitely go for a male as females just aren't very attractive in comparison IMO.

Jeff rapps Said whe my buddy placed the order it was a F2 he owned the parents

That's interesting, didn't know that Jeff had wild caught cubans as they are from Cuba and there are obviously trade restrictions between the US and Cuba. There was a big thread a while back that got pretty heated on the subject. I'd be interested to know what methods he had to use to import them.

I thought he said it was a f2 i may have heard wrong but hellmans cuban has some real nice markings.
