Spatula X osseus is one of mine also and one I have pretty much planned for some time to seek out and find...This fish is my personal holy grail and one I'm willing to leave no rock unturned until I find one (preferably several) of varied age classes.. This is one of the only known active natural reproducing hybrid lepisosteids and is a fish of great interest on more than one level.. They are not much interest on a hobby level IMO due to their obvious great size but from a scientific point of view (and just to any Gar nerd) they are very intriguing.

Platostomus x Osseus are also quite interesting.... The "medium nose" however has been an easier fish to come by and suspected fish are not all that uncommon in some localities.. A few also where produced artificially and a few of these are around.

those jaws....KILLER!!will this gar grow even larger than the alligator gar due to it's long snout? or would the body length be kind of in between while the length of the snout is that of a longnose. or would individual specimens differ?

what is the suspected max size of the osseus x spatula? i would guess between 6-8 feet? i would love to keep a "medium nose" that would be a rather interesting gar to keep.

with the osseus x spatula...do the hybrids breed amongst each other or do they only cross breed w/ one another? i take it you have yet to see one in person?

yo arosvios! glad to see you here. haha DUH im afraid of those jaws! i mean, alligator gar with giant jaws! i mean, LONG giant jaws..!

The largest Osseus X Spatula recorded so far (to my knowledge) was around 6 foot.. Thing about these fish is they are only really known to fishermen and no one in science has really looked at them (except for acknowledging they are hybrids). It is hard to say much about them due to this. Everything about them is anecdotal and second hand.

i hear what your saying...and every fisherman calls a gar an "alligator gar" they have no idea of the different species. the size seems to be exactly what i would expect. what region are most of the "sightings" occuring in? obviously it's in a place that both species exist, but is there a specific river, lake, etc...
