Huh? That gar is actualy slightly overweight. You do not want them to have too much girth.
 
atractosteus(cubans gators n tropicals) are very much stockier than other gars, the cuban looks fine size wise from what i can see in the given pic. i hope it's going into a primarily gar dedicated tank and not a community!

ps aragonite sand keeps the gars gold and stress free

I'm not going to lie, there are other fish in the tank, some which you may say are not good mixers. I have crushed shells in my filter to buffer the pH, but like the look of aragonite and will replace the substrate.
