cuban still dark

WCs don't help with nitrites in the long run, you've gotta figure out what's causing them. It basically boils down to the filtration being unable to cope with waste in the tank, whether because its' too new media, not enough, too many fish, too much food, etc.

How big is that tank?

Also, why the oxygen stones? All your fish are airbreathers...unless you are using it to help clear excess carbon dioxide to prevent the water becomeing too acidic (carbonic acid)

i don't think it's the amt of waste...i donn feed them very much(aside from the african aro) perhaps filtration cant cope. im adding more asap though(raining insane here, cant go out)

i'll be cutting down the african aros feeding to once a day...

for cuban gars dissolved oxygen is almost as important as pristine water...read poly saying that sometime or other.

4x2x2, it's too small for the cuban but it's not overstocked, and pretty much alright for all the other fishes.

i think poly is somewhat mis-quoted there, air access, water quality, and stable water parameters are important, but dissolved oxygen is not as important as pristine water...at least not when they are at that size.

more later--
--solomon

ps-- and yes, i think its the nitrites...a well-established/maintained tank should always read 0 nitrites and ammo.

went back to re-read it...yeah i mis interpreted it

xander get some underworld polyfilter! works magic! its sorted my situation out, well that salt and 82 degrees has stableised it and improvement is showing!

T1 swears by it, and i think ill run it 24/7 from now on too cos its wicked stuff!

and having a high aeration level wont have ill effects, and certainly be helpful to ur bio filtration....

i'll be going lfs shopping soon, and i'll look into it, budget's pretty low atm...
great to hear yr situation's cleared up, but i think i'll be
-adding more aeration
-double the number of trays i have atm, and continue w the water changes...
-reduce feedings by half
-reduce bioload(16" green aro has to go)

anything else i missed out? or should this clear things up.
