I bet there are a couple thousand eggs! Now lets see if they are good parents. Ive got a tank set aside for the youngin's. This is my first spawn so tips and suggestions would be great. How often should I expect them to breed? at what point should i remove the kids?

i was also supposed to do a water change within the next couple days. should i just call that off for now?

some background info:
55 gal
Male cuban 3.5"
female cuban 3"

tankmates:
2" raphael catfish
2.5" synodontis hybrid
2x 1.5 festae (which ive been trying to get rid of)

I want this to be a cuban breeding tank with just the two of them. Probably the cats too.

cuban what?

cuban cichlids ? if so cool
i would remove tankmates especially catfish, put them in baby tank you talked about and then switch them back when babies are ready to move to new tank.
just my opinion witout knowing your situation also others may have different ideas
good luck

mine arent very photogenic. heres a pic from jeff rapps (tangled up in cichlids) for reference. I bought my cubans from him this past october.

a couple eggs turned colors which i take it as they are bad eggs (white). I am going to try to have the rest of the tankmates out tomorrow, but i dont want to disturb her nest or anything. any advice. does it matter if I have to chase everyone with a net and risk disturbing her? the male doesnt seem to be very involved but she is doing a fine job protecting the eggs. not a single one gone.
