i just fed my convicts baby brine shrimp and a high protien flake till they got big enough for frozen bloodworms. and did lots of WC's. out of all the pairs i have had over the years they were the only ones i was able to concentrate on and sucsessfully make money on. since i have been talking about them lately i have been thinking about doing it again. for feeders and profit. not a bad idea.

Just finished rearing a Clutch of Con's last month kept 6 to get another pair. Can't make any real money out here on these but great for Cichla young. My new Cichla primarly ate Con fry for there first two weeks once they got here. :D

yeah i got an lfs that wants to buy the fry when they get 1". i dont plan to make much money nor did i really buy them to make money it is a pretty neat thought. i think they are some of the coolest cichlids out there.

These sell well out here in Colo. I am sure once they get your fry in and sell out the will inquire about them again. :grinyes: I actually breed curently 5 different pairs of Cichlid's. But these here are a hot breed indeed. :headbang2:clap

yea not really a profit i guess but i have a lfs that will take them for $2.50 a piece(store credit) over by me so i'll figure about out of the 100 or so fry that i'll get i'll take 50 of them for occasional treats and the other 50 will go towards store credit for additional food or whatever.

Nice. It's about the same here price wise. But these Cuban's I will sell privatly at $10 a piece. Lfs and friend's. The trick is I found out a long time ago is getting them to the sale size 1'' - 2''.

yeah you have to wait for a bit to get cons to the $5 size that the LFS will sell them at. but once you get the tanks set up for them it comes down to being a production line:D. takes about 3 months with a divided 55 for new hatchers with the parents and free swimmers on other side and a 10 and 29 for grow outs. not sure on how often cuban will lay eggs though. but that sounds like an awesome money maker.

All my growout's are 55g's. I do have smaller tank's but I don't like to pack fry into small tank's. By being in a bigger tank the casulty's are less. Also most imortant more water can be exchanged meaning faster growth imo..

yeah but i never had very many casulties with the cons. most were caused by me sucking them up in the gravel cleaner:D. but yes the bigger tank the better due to being able to keep the higher volume of water stable.
