should do fine considering typical 75's are 4 feet long but only 18 inches deep, the extra 6 inches in depth and little more height should give it room....
that tank's length will be less than 3 times the length of the oscar itself. not big enough. big enough for a firemouth or something like that, but oscars need more swimming room
It was a tank custom made to fit in a particular corner of my room. I'll be housing only one oscar. No decor except some large pebbles to hide the air stones
...No! Dont get an oscar for that tank... 4 foot minimum for these guys. I cant imagine my 12" oscar in a 3 foot tank! He would not have enough room. Look into things that get 7-9" max.
I'd say it's too short. The added depth will help, but the added height will do little benefit. Yes it could work, but imagine if you end up with one of the beasts 14"+. Very uncomfortable.
Sounds good to me for one O.... real estate is the same as a regular 75gal. Straight line swimming room along the length of the tank is not as great, but oscars are not the most active fish anyway. Diagonal length is 43.3" for the 36X24 VS. 51.3" for the 48X18.
But, much better than a 55gal IMO (and some say this is the minimum size for an O).
How do people substantiate keeping an oscar in a 55gal when it is only 12" deep???
