Custom Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Without a doubt you will be more happy with the wider tank. In a 30" wide tank you have much more options that a 18" and it will be worth it. If you go for the 90 you will always wonder how much better the other tank would be until you end up getting it anyway

That alone pretty much persuades me to buy the custom tank.

What are you going to stock? I wouldn't expect the custom tank to allow you to keep enough large aggressive fish to justify the expense since it is still a 5' tank, however if keeping smaller less aggressive fish it would be great. The extra depth really opens a lot of options for aquascaping.

I'm thinking along the lines of mixed predator, but only from the amazon. Things like, Acestrorhynchus, and if space allows smaller Hydrolocus species, or Cichla. That's only plan A, Plan B is a stingray pair, what kind? either P. Leopoldi, or pearl stingrays; I don't know their scientific order, Potamotrygon sp. Plan C is an Asian aro with a couple dats, and either a few clown loaches, or a small group of tiger barbs. I don't know I haven't really fully decided yet, I was going to wait until I got it, then ask for stocking advise based on the aquariums max allowance. Which one sounds best?!

Just got the final price for the 60" x 30" x 30" - 233g. It's going to be $1,350 for just the aquarium. Here are the details, *Starfire glass front & sides, beveled & polished, drilled with overflow box, appropriately sized sump with custom baffles, Custom fitted glass top. Is it worth the price?

Unfortunately for me, they don't do cabinets. Does anyone know someone in Toronto that does custom wood work?

I've never priced these tanks but for that size and starfire glass I wouldn't have been shocked at the quote.

So it's reasonable? It's going to be my first custom tank, so I don't know a whole lot about the pricing. I've heard great things about starfire glass, but is it really worth the extra $?

I still don't know if I want clear sealant, or black. The back panel is going to be black.

Opinions please!

I have 1 tank with the black and really like it, don't know if I actually like it more or if it just different.

My tiny 29g has black silicone as well. I like the look of it, but I can imagine how much more classy the tank would look if it was seamless looking on a black background. Then again doesn't silicone cloud over time anyway?
