Similar to carpintes where a black blotch on their dorsal usually means a female.

sometimes the dorsal color is very subtle (too subtle for me), and I must use profile as a determiner.

Judging by the dorsal I have two males and 6 females. Mine are still a little small so hopefully I'm right.

That's a great ratio I always like to have at least double (preferably more) the number of females to male, for any cichlid.
