yeah and any reputable retailer selling "wild caught" fish wouldnt call them "blue texas" but carpintis, but yeah this fish does look like of like a mix of the variants, but maybe its like a feral mix that he caught?

and Sabfan yours looks like a cyano hybrid with that red to it

Yeah didn't think of that, He is extremely skittish, but overly aggressive when I put anything in with him. He is just wasting tank space for me. I came to the conclusion that I'm just going to sell him to my lfs as a tex hybrid. At least this way I get the $4 I spent on him and partially cover the price of the fish he killed.

yeah if hes being really skittish AND aggressive with tankmates then i think that would be the best thing, hes good looking fish but i dont like it when they act all skittish because then they pass that behavior on to the other fish in the tank :(

yes greenwater, i have never seen wild carpintis, cyanoguttatus yes i collected 2 times in san antonio and brought them back spawned them and sold them might go back in aug hopefully....

I'm selling him this afternoon.

Careful.....just the slightest inference of unfair dealing can bring a lot of heat down on you!

I agree with the others that anyone selling them as wild could have (should have) provided a little more backup.

Plus, it's probably likely that if cost a little more than $4 to collect that fish from the wild...........but what do I know about economics? Hahaha!

Very true.

As of now, I'm just frustrated with him. He is extremely skittish by himself. When I tried putting him with my more docile cichlids (which was my original intention) he went on a rampage over night and beat one to death. The only option besides the 29g quarantine he is already in, is my oscar's tank who has a burning hatred for anything in his tank besides the senegal bichirs. I'm not going to go out of my way and have a set-up specifically for him, if he is going to flip out and nail the tank walls every time I approach the tank.

quite likely . . . he was orphaned in a tank labeled "Convicts", so I have no expectations that he's anything more than a mutt :)

I'm sorry to read the the OP's fish is getting out of control . . . mine has been relatively calm, especially since he paired up with a female convict . . . they've made one corner of the 90G "their" space, but they don't bother anyone outside of it . . .
