I don't want to hijack, but while you're all looking at texas cichlids, can anyone ID mine?

I think that would qualify as a hijack. Especially since your whole thread about that fish died after you never responded to everyone's request for more pics.......:screwy:

To the original pics......carpintis.

Thanks guys.... I guess there's not definate identification. Oh well, I purchased them because they looked really nice and a breeding pair....... guess that's all that matters.

Are they in the community tank now?

Carpintis...No doubt whatsoever....

They're Cyano.

This is my breeding pair that i gave away to ocean blue a few weeks ago and i'm still pretty sure house's female was previously mine. here's some pictures from a while back when they were breeding. The male is a Carpintis and the female is a Cyano. You can see that the Carpinti's pearls are much more larger than the Cyano. More pearl like than spots.

And this is likely the reason for mis identification of these two fish.... This cross gaurrantees a life time of mis id's for the rest of history just like labiatus/citrinellis.

But go ahead and keep fighting.. It's a good fight and everyone including Ken will look so much smarter after this thread ends dead locked.....

Ok, Like I said before, I have some wild caught cyanos that I netted outside of Austin, these are the true Texas Cichlid, a lot of people have never even seen true cyano because they are not desirered like H. Carpintas, I have never seen Cyano at the LPS, although the two have been over the years been cross bred with each other making them almost the same fish in the trade just like Midas and Red Devils, just as now when anyone sees a Carpintas with any kind of resemblance of worm-like markings on the gill plate it is automatically an Escondido!. The 1st and 2nd pics for referece is H. Carrpintas, 3rd is Carpintas on the left, wild Cyano on Right, not the best pic, but you should be able to see a difference, 4-6 are wild Cyanos, the pearling is much, much smaller and overall the fish looks more drab in color, and just to throw it in there, the little guy in the last 2 pics is a fry from a Carpintas spawn, out of over 200 fry I raised he was the only one that had the wormy markings on the gill plate, If I was to make a thread on this guy asking what he was I am certain the majority would say Escondido, and I thought about doing it just for s***s and giggles, I am not an expert, just a MFK'er who knows some stuff, hope this helps.
