Hye Everybody,

I just want to know if I'm cycling my tank right. I have the temp at 85 degrees, placed silversides, bits of squid and cube of blood worms in a pantyhose and tied it. The pantyhose filled with food is under a tank ornament. Also I have the a bubble wand connected to the whisper air supply machine.

Last but not least I pointed the outakes of the fx5 upwards to created a suface current...does these tactics sound good for cycling a 50 gallon tank?

P.S. What kinds of color show fish can I get in a 50 gallon tank?

Thanks A Million!

Dimensions?
Don't bother with regular cycling... Stability ftw

Yup you are doing it right.

I think you may like to try convict cichlids

+1 on convicts. You can have a pair in there for life!

Im gonna look up, what are convicts. I did have a freshwater tank years ago with parrots and other ciclids.

Also what do you mean by stability bigo?

Also it's a 50 gallon corner tank...dimentions are hard to tell.

I would avoid letting things rot to cycle the tank. By the end they are no longer providing a source of ammonia so any bacteria that you had growing will die off. You need to use bottled ammonia and add it daily until you actually add livestock that will do this for you. Otherwise you are just wasting time.

How does this stock look? I;m trying to keep it as a community, I think the discus may be a problem size wise...filteration is an fx5.

2x Snakeskin Discus
4x Zebra Danio
2x Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami
1x Angelicus Botia Loach
1x Goldy Pleco L -14
1x Sterba's Cory
1x Albino Aeneus Cory Cat
1x Peppered Cory Cat
False Julii Cory Cat

Zebra danios prefer temps lower than discus like. Cories like to school, so pick one species (I recommend the sterbai with the discus) and go with about six. Loaches are also schoolers, minimum three.

Ok so I'll remove the zebra danio's...what temp is best for discus? Also I'll just get one kind of cory and get like you said about 6 of them. For loaches I'll probably purchase small clown loaches (3).

I wouldn't do clown loaches, they get too big. Stick with something like an angelicus like you said originally. Clown loaches will also destroy plants in most cases, something you may want to do with discus, even if not right away.

Discus are best at 82-88F.
