Cycling A Freshwater Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ditto, go with 82-84F, the other fish will be fine with it (most of them come from the same waters in nature).

Ok thank you, so I'll keep the temp at 83 :) in middle of the suggestion. Also a pair of discus is ok right? I'm doing extra reseach and it say's they like to be in a group (I'm well aware of the fact that this is a 50 gallon tank) would a pair thrive?

A pair would do well. You may want to get more in order to get a true pair and then sell the others.

That makes sense, I guess I'll try to get let's say 4 discus at like 3-4inches and see if theyed paird up in the future and then sell the 2?

Also worst nightmare occured yesterday, my mom purchased 2 kissing gouramis at 5 inches and 2 gold dwarf gouramis. I informed her about not purchasing any fish, but she said that the kissing gouramis were just massive. Well I guess I can't blame her to much...she is mom (I'm still probably gonna get rid of the kissing gouramis because I think thier considered agressive).

So far all water is good except amonia which is at 1ppm. I'm assuming tomorrow it's gonna maintain that..then in a week or 2 drop....then nitrite spike....etc.

Also should I do a water change for these fish? I'm pretty sure not to because it would interfere with the cycling...

Thanks Reptileguy for the fast reply.
