I have an AC70 ans AC110. From what I have seen the 110 has a gasket type rubber piece that fits at the bottom of the intake tub above the impeller. The 70 has nothing and I do now what your talking about as far as the water overflowing back over the intake side and not just over the media. Interesting I will have to look tonight.
