It will vary from tank to tank...but expect it to take a few weeks (2-3 weeks)

Then you will have to deal with both ammonia and nitrite levels by doing water changes.....which might mean you have to do one everyday or even sometimes two a day to keep levels atleast at or below .25ppm for both ammonia and nitrite so as not to do as much harm to the fish.

Fishless cycling is by far much easier since you dont have to deal with water changes everyday to keep ammonia and nitrite levels in check to keep them from harming fish like you do in a fishy cycle.
