If im not mistaken the Seachem is a chlorine remover. Same as Prime.. Not 100% on this but.

Nitrates at 20ppm will not harm fish. 50ppm of it will. Have him go to a local fish store to buy a few hand fulls of gravel from one of their established tanks. Tell him to put it into the filter cartridges (if filter is equipted with) if not just put it into the tank.

Or if he can have him buy a sponge filter, trade the new sponge for an established one with the fish store and set that up. It will cycle his tank properly in approx 48 hrs.

You are mistaken and probably would benefit by doing a search on Seachem's stability

when you add prime it converts ammonia to non toxic form but will still read on your test kit. I wouldnt add just prime to the water daily, I would add it with the waterchanges. Approx 25% daily at first then every other day after a week or so. If he is using stability he can do less waterchanges, just follow the directions on the bottle, but I would still do one after the week cycle. waterchanges may remove the spores in stability. watch for heavy breating, gasping at surface, that is a sign a water change needs to be done asap.

Prime is a chlorine remover only. It will do nothing for ammonia.

really? I guess the bottle is wrong because it says it removes ammonia, chloine, chloramine, detoxifies nitrites and nitrates:confused::confused::confused:

WOW.................have him go out and spend $14 on a bottle of cycle if you can't get pre-cycled material...................all the products listed so far would have to be used daily they are for an immediate fix ie- de-chlorinator works for only 1 water change; Ammo lock releives ammonia one time - NONE stop or prevent the build up of harmful ammonia or nitrate that will occur every second that the tank does not have etablished colonies of bacteria.

Just curious...Has anyone ever put in their prized CA/SA cichlid in a tank which wasn't fully cycled and were still successful at keeping their prized cichlid healthy? Crazy question I know...the reason I ask is because I have a friend who did not finish his cycling however, added some fairfly nice and expensive cichlids/fishes which were handed over to him. His water parameters he indicates to me are like 1ppm for each Ammonia and Nitrate.

FYI...I would of taken care of the fish for him during his cycling however, he lives too far from me.

S Sheldon D please read all post thoroughly. Also read the other threads on filtration and cycling.

I recently bought 11 wild caught frontosas that were around 80 dollars each. At the same time my bio filter crashed and had a huge ammonia spike. I bought some Prime conditioner and began water changes almost on a daily basis. I also got some seachem stability and dosed the tank daily for a week. 2 weeks later the fish are all still alive and eating normally. I even had a female spawn after a few days. these products really wirk at binding ammonia and saving fish loss.
I can't believe someone would spend that much money on fish......
