out of my 12 years caring for a fish. I have never cycled a tank and never had any problems. I am just asking you guys if also don't cycle tanks.

Then you obviously never knew what nitrogen cycle is all about. Even if you think you never cycled your tank at all, the truth is your tanks are undergoing nitrogen cycle with or without your knowledge. Get a test kit and it'll tell you your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate change from time to time but at the expense of most fish due to ammonia and nitrite toxicity. Have you borrowed from anyone their established filter media? If so, then your tank may have simply instantly jumpstarted the cycle process thus preventing ammonia and nitrite from going to dangerous levels. How long have your fish last so far? Subjecting their body system to toxic levels influence their body functioning thus affecting their lifespans as well. Perhaps you bought fish that are tolerant or more forgiving to improper water conditions? This situation is quite subjective in itself.

Uting, I believe your water may be soft judging by the place you live. If so, the pH is unlikely to remain in alkaline state for sometime and simply converted ammonia to ammonium as the pH becomes acidic preventing ammonia toxicity on your fish. Nitrite becomes the next issue however.

i usually have at least one tank up and running all the time so if im getting a new tank i just swap half the filter pads and also run an extra pump in the old one so i can transfer it to the new tank and get started. its worked for me ok :)

I always cycle extremely carefully and extensively. Better to be safe than sorry, IMO.

I think the fish survive because most likely they live also in uncycled tanks. and at least I age the water for at least a day or 2.
There is no such thing as uncycled tank after sometime. Their poo starts as ammonia which the bacteria converts to nitrite and then nitrate in the end. Nitrogen cycle is a neverending process.

you technically cycled it
using the same fish you intended to take care of

Isn't it more you're cycling the filter(s) than the tank itself? I overfilter and pull a filter if i need to setup another tank. 3-4 filters per tank.
