How should I go about adding some Cynotilapia Afra to a 27 gallon tank?

The tank is going to be re set up in a week or two with white silica sand replacing the current goldfish gravel and some decorations I was thinking about were real plants. Hornwort and Amazon sword to start.

An 8 inch synodontis will be the bottom feeding tank mate here and maybe an 8 inch pleco. Thoughts on the pleco?

I'm not sure I can get these Cynotilapia Afra at me LFS but I will find a way to get them some how. Price check anyone?

Anything I should be careful about with these fish? Group size? M/F ratio? Tank mates?

I don't think they should be too hard to keep but I may be wrong. I think I covered it all.

Thanks, will:headbang2

The first picture is the Synodontis (ID on him please?)
The second picture is the tank in poor condition lol

thanks

How long is the tank?

It can be tricky keeping mbuna in less than a 4 foot tank.

Afra can be a aggressive. Do you know what type you want? I would stick with a 1 male to 4 female ratio. Tankmates will depend on the size of the tank. The pleco may be ok, sometimes mbuna will remove a pleco's eyes. I'm not sure about the syno.

The tank is 3 feet long it is an old Hex front made by Oceanic.

I will probably not put the pleco in there.

The LFS said I can add 6 of them with the Synodontis.

I'm excited because they will be F1!!! woot!

My LFS actually has a wild caught breeding group. Not sure the exact variety, I will get a picture when I can. When I get the fish in about two weeks they will be about an inch long and set me back $12 a piece.

So what are the thoughts on 1m 5f? 1m 4f? 2m 4f?

Thanks guys

You won't be able to tell the gender at that size. You will have to buy more than you need and grow them out. The you remove extra males as needed. I would do 1 male and 5 females. It works well with my Cynotilapia sp White top hara.

Thank you for the info. I love learning about fish.
Maybe I buy 10 of them and then return 4 idk if the LFS rolls that way. never done a return.
