My dad works at disney, and every now and then when they add a ned pump in a lake, they end up getting alota small fish stuck to a screen. so he brought me home a buncha small 1-2" fish, one of which is a 1" bowfin. Never got them this small before normmaly all over 16". So i'm very :grinno: about this. How fast do these guys grow?

could we get a pic or 2?

Ummmm I can almost PROMISE you did not get a 1" bowfin at this time of year. If it looks that much like a bowfin.......you know what it probably is and should make sure of it's proper ID at once.

In florida, we can catch them all year long ranging from 4-20"+. But I can try and get a pic if I can get him to come out. But i'm no native exspert so feel free to correct me if i'm wrong. I'll take some other pics of the natives he brought home with it.

edit : yea sorry, no luck My camera cant focus enough due to how dark it is outside and the black water extract in the tank, I'll try again tomorrow :(.

Anywho the other natives he brought home are .5" - 1" bluegill, some havn't even got their stripes yet so they could be sunfish or crappie, or speck. but we will see in a couple weeks when they grow.

Went back out and tried it with a different camera. Best I could do guys and gals sorry.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's a darter. Can't tell what species from the pic though. The other two are bluegill, as far as I can tell.

You sure? thought darters were top water fish? this guy patrols the bottom.

Edit : did a google search on darters, if it is a darter i believe it looks like the black banded darter :(

Well, looks like I got some feeders :)

The top fishes are certainly sunfish (of some sort) and the bottom is certainly a darter.

The sunfish is too small to be certain and better pic of the darter will get us closer.

Edit: Darters are related to perch and bottom dwellers.

Agh that sucks, got my hopes up. They are in my 10 gallon right now untill I can find some small 1-2" pbass for sale. I should probably do a miami trip and see what I can get in my minnow traps

thanks for the id guys and gals.
