I can only imagine how tricky a 500G would be to clean? I can just manage my 200 without the need of a small step ladder for the hard to reach places...
And i can imagine how much you want a 500G i mean heck im sure a lot of us would, but sometimes its better to reign it in a little... Especially if you still got college and everything else in front of you, a lot in life has yet to happen and im sure a lot will change... Just imagine trying to move a 500G tank from one home to another...

500 gallon.. i'd go with better fish.
go with 2-3 black or silver arowanas, some peacock bass, and some rays (if they are legal where you are at).
or if you want to do cichlids go with an all male community tank, don't do pairs.
This thread was well worth the read, got a nice laugh from it.
Some of the electric bill quotes for a 500 gallon are priceless.
I wish people would stop knocking others for the fish they want to keep....nothing wrong with Oscars.
So instead of adding an educated and experienced opinion on the subject, you insult people (read:me) when they're trying to explain the potential cost of such a large project. Let's hear your take Mr. High and Mighty.

Wow, now that sounds like to pot calling the kettle black.
I don't know or care which users were throwing out 500 -600 dollar electric bills for a 500 and I'm not going to go back to find out but I have a 500 gallon 8X3X3 and I can tell you first hand it doens't cost anywhere near that per month to heat and keep the pumps running.
It's not cheap to set up and maintain by any means but let's try to be realistic.
Okay just thought of a better stock
3- oscars
3- jack Dempseys
3-convict
3-sun catfish
2- jaguar cichlids
2- Texas cichlids
6- bristlenose plecos
2- common plecos
2- Senegal bichirs
1- dovii?
Would this stock work at all? Not sure on the dovii as I'm pretty sure I can't even get any near me. Would the cichlids parts work though? Name any faults please? I know it will be an extremely aggressive tank. That's what I want though.. Also gonna probably load in like 1000 of my breeding snails. I'm pretty sure the convicts don't stand a chance. I wanted to get Texas and jags to crossbreed. So id maybe just get one of each. Any ideas on stock?
