I get around
So I picked this guy up today like this. I figured I would take on the challenge. I cannot believe anyone would let there Arow get like this guy.:irked: He is one ugly fish now. He is 16-17"

So the question is. How much finnage and barbel growth can I realisticly expect to get back on this guy?

Maybe it is just my computer.... But I don;t see a picture to give you an estimate...

WOW, this is one banged-up black aro - pity. Imo, all of the fins and tail would be fine in time, though barbels are unlikely to recover. At least the body shape does not look deformed.

Good luck and post about the progress please

/\/\ i agree, the fins should be ok but i dont think youll get the barbels back..

Fins will be fine,do you have an extra tank just to let this guy heal up???You may also try some salt in the water,is there any aggression with the other Aro in your tank???

the whole back tail of my RTG has came off totally 3 months ago, now the whole tail almost grew back, so u dont have to worry too much. As long as its not too deep, all the fins are able to grow back as normal

That really isn't damage in my opinion ;) Should heal fine aside from the barbells ;)

i thought barbels grow back fine? i read in a number of posts that it did...... that really sucks b/c i bought a banged up aro the other week with no barbels, expecting them to grow back!

All of those problem was caused from poor water. My only concern is on the facial "wrinkles", which I don't think can be fixed, but who knows. Just keep your water clean, and time will tell. It may not be fixed, but it could get smoothen . For the barbels, they will grow back. Keep the light off as much as possible will help with the grow. Since aro can't see, it must use the barbels to "feel", so keeping the light off will make him to grow the barbels back. You can also use a needle and stab a few times at the root of each barbels to trigger the grow. For the finnage, you could trim it, and it will grow back in a couples of months. If you don't want to put your aro through stress, you can skip the two procedures I just mentioned. The important key is clean water. If you don't keep clean water, even you trim the finnage, they will grow back "crooked" like the current condition.
