Damn You Mrs. Terror

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
4 days in the Q tank and she still wont take a nibble of bloodworm or cichlid gold small pellets. I used parasite clear by jungle. I guess i will put her back in the 90 gal tomorrow and hope for some improvement in her appetite. Its strange how she hasnt eaten in a month and a half and he stomach looks fine, But she isnt growing.

I dont know if jungle parasite clear has the same active ingredients as metro, but if not, id use metro for sure. I used 1.5 times the recommended dosage and used for 10 days straight and finally got my fish parasite problem. But you cant use it for just a day or 2. GL

I use API General Cure Anti-Parasitic Fish Medication. Its a little pricier than Jungle but it works really well. Also after the treatment I noticed with my GT she wouldn't accept the same type of pellets anymore. The only thing I could get her to eat after treatment was worms then eventually I worked her back on pellets.

Eyy good news. Mrs. Terror seems to be more interested in food now. The harder pellets she just sucks in then spits out. She will munch down on a couple flakes and bloodworms. She has been taking mouthfuls of sand too. She actually seems like she knows what eating is again, so thats a step in the right direction. She still keeps her bottom fins a little clamped, but she alot more active. Not as lethargic. I hope i did enough damage to the internal parasites so her natural immune system can catch up.
Another question, Why does my fenestratus eat until his stomach is about to explode. Is this unhealthy? There is nothing i can do, because my other fish munch down at a reasonable speed, but this fenestratus just gobbles everything and never gets full. After every feeding it looks like he has bloat but is fine in 2 or 3 hours. He has grown ALOT too.

The outbreak you initially described sounds like cottonwool not ich - looks like spiderwebs a pretty good indication the fish you introduced came from a very unhealthy enviorment. The stringy poop was parasites - attached to that poop were egg sists. I hope you thouroghly cleaned the tank and discarded all media as the eggs could attach to them. Jungle Clear does a real good job of killing off internals and if the stringy poop is gone and shes eating - Kudos. It doesn't suprise me one bit that your cichlid is eating soft foods I'm sure her inerts are sore.

good job getting her to eat again, and yeah i would soak her pellets in a cup of tank water for a couple min prior to feeding for a couple weeks since they have the best nutrition and will help her recover faster. as for the fenestratus, some fish are just pigs lol i usually see this with my catfish but cichlids will do it as well. they eat like its their last meal but its ok i would just feed smaller meals more often through out the day so that he doesnt eat soooo much at one sitting

Ahhh bloody f'ing hell. Damn fish are about getting on my last nerve. Now me carpentis or cyano will not eat. JD tries to eat then spits it out and shakes his head back a forth. AWESOMEEEEEEEE :irked:
I am almost at the point where this hobby is becomeing unjoyable. Perfect filtration, perfect parameters, perfect stocking and still stupid stupid problems... Im beginning to think the only respectable LFS around here enjoys poisening my tanks so i buy more fish.
Buhhh anyway, my last ditch effort is going to be to be to try one of the best anti-parasitics on the market. Im guessing its API because its the most expensive. Most of their products seem like marketing gimmicks, and API general cure says it treats parasites, but says nothing about internal parasites. Any advice? If this doesnt work im done with C/a S/a cichlids. They seem to just stress me out anymore.
