i have recently aqcuired 3 danio's. 2 zebra, and one leopard. the leopard is looking rather rotund, but doesnt seem to eat any more than the two zebra's. it keeps getting chased by the other two as well, but its not violent chasing, kinda looks like they are playing follow the leader. is it possible that the leopard is a pregnant female and the two (smaller) zebra's are males?

They can crossbreed, so it's possible you have a gravid female trying to pair up. They're egg scatterers though, and not shy about eating their own eggs/fry - without larger substrate or something like java moss that'll catch and hide the eggs/fry, you might not see many.

They'll usually spawn at first light, so what you're seeing might just be the normal chasing. I've had 6+ long fins in 3 seperate tanks now - heavily planted, lightly, and lots of open water. They honestly don't stop moving at full tilt in any of them. I'm currently watching 3 of them chasing each other around the output of a 200+gph pond pump output - they've been at it for about... 13 hours so far. :screwy:

i have discovered what looks like small drops of clear jelly with lots of tiny white spots inside. there are on the inside rim of the hollow log in the tank, am not sure whether these are from the danio's (larger one is still rather plump) or from my neons (originally 6 but lost 3)i presume they are eggs of some kind though, the white spots are wriggling a little bit

Danios are egg scatterers. They will eat their eggs as fast as they come out. If you want to make a real go of breeding them with success, use a 10-gallon tank, have a mat of java moss on the bottom, some people use marbles or a mesh. Lower the water level so they only have a few inches to swim in. And let them be. When I bred them I fed them heavily with white worms and bloodworms. I kept the males and females separate for two weeks. When I moved them all to the breeding tank it was chaos. They bred almost immediately and I removed the adult fish the next day.

thats a good point actually, i have apple snails. but they have been breeding already and i have not noticed eggs before, just baby snails. these are tiny too, bubble isnt much bigger than a drop of water, with loads of teeny tiny white spots in it
