about the 24 inches...... they were around 20 inches not exactly 24 inches i just estimated. my friend that left the hobby had 2 at about 20 inches and wes had a humongous one that shoudl have been atleast 20 inches in his 300 gal wall tank. sorry i dont have any "proof". i guess u just gohta believe me.

damn, too bad. would love to see one that big in person since i know you are local to me.

Cmon guys lets try to be nice and try to teach what other hobbyists do not know. And to those that do not know, please try to do as much research as you can . fishbase is a great resource for fish identification.

the hype to me, is they dont come around often. barely once a year... if that. and there awesome fish. i've been waiting years to own some, finally got my chance so i took advantage. glad these babies flooded the scene. gave me the opportunity to own some and raise some.

Kidding me!Whats the hype!!Ha!You can't get them at LFS's around here,so the internet is the only way.........and their awesome looking AND get monster sized!!!!And you don't see them commonly in LFS's like Oscars.Thats why,'cause their not as abundant.I'll be honest,i LOVE large Cichlids but i'll never get an Oscar 'cause they symbolise Commonness,give me a Datnoid!Now your talkin'.

they are that cool........... cuz i'll spend a $100 on a fish...NGT...... knowing damn well i'll get weeks off greif over it but still buy it anyway.......cuz they are that cool!!!!

bottom line is most people who enjoyed dats are those with patience to let them get stable and comfortable to truely enjoy this fish. there are a few that try just to see what the hype is about but never really enjoy them because they end up with a unstable dat that stays dark and hides all the time. common thing.

not all dats are the same. they are have different personalities which i see in all 8 of my dats. they are always curious fish and recognize his tankmates and owner.

when i put in new fish in the tank, they dat will swim by, see it, then get this little stare down while its swims pass it slowly to the back side. then slowly move up and try to size it up to see if it food. its kind of hard to explain the personality it shows in the tank.

with fishes, you just have to try it and see. everyone likes different types of fishes for different reasons. with dats, i started out with one just to see what the hype was soon after i ended up with 8 cause i enjoyed the first one so much.
