u cant really say its an indo or a widebar, or where it came from. but to me that looks like a widebar no matter with stripe tail or not. theres 3 bars and the middle one is wide. just like the name

I'm still saying an obvious INDO all the way. Good luck with the eyes.

Well here are my observations (of course I can be wrong):

Bodyshape: typical bodyshape on an IT. The fish is already at a good size, but still has an elongated look. D. Pulchers would be more "high back" giving it a more "spoon head" appearance.

Body stripes: from the right side of the fish, you can see that the third stipre does not taper off. The bottom seems the same size as the upper, or even larger, then sudden brakes off.

Tail pattern: obviously the fish has IT tail pattern here.

Big eyes: this fish looks a bit stunted to me. But still its eyes are pretty big, which is an characteristic mostly found in ITs.

I think the most confusing points here would be the 3 bars, and also the fact that the 4th one does not have the usual IT hump.

Anyways, what are your observations if you do believe it's D. Pulcher.

I AGREE 100% !!!

These were my arguments in the last thread this fish was posted in.

ok ,

so the tail strip is extra, should be taller, smaller eyes,,,

and it looks stunted cause its eyes are bulging or ?

thanks all---

im still saying IT

no matter how much you feed it up or make the eyes better the tail stripes body shape and the way the body stripes are is still going to make me say IT

but again i say the same thing if you like it keep it and enjoy it if you dont like it sell it

It looks stunted because its eyes are really big, out of proportion big. Also, if you look at tis mouth, you can tell that it is not propotionate to the rest of the body. I believe that the size of the mouth of a fish can tell its age.

A fish usually gets stunted when it is kept in a small tank for a long time, or is not fed properly. Try to "cure" it by giving it proper care. I think that is the essence of fish keeping.

ok last thing,,

i'm gonna treat him with melafix for his side wounds (which i believe are self inflicted via flashing)

second, some sort of pop-eye med due to the salt not working

third przipro for good measure of any internal bugs....

any thoughts of these meds hurting him or in any sort of order,, possibly mixing 1 or 2?

i'm gonna put him in a 20 long to cut on med cost -

I think 20 gallons is pretty small for such a big fish. It would stress the fish more than anything, plus dats get easily stressed. IMO, just leave the fish in the big tank, it looks happy there.

I cannot say anything abot the other med, but Melafix has work well for me in the past. Just be careful with the dosing, always read the label. There is two Melafix out there, one "normal" one and the other is for pond, which is more concentrated.
