I picked up my microlepis and have had them 5 for three mounths thay seem to very in color slightly .I have ben feeding them live blackworms and shrimp.whin i got them theywere about the size of a nickle now thay are about 2 in.i do weekly half water changes..

I remember Ade said that if you don't give your dats a place to hide, they'll swim around your tank all the time. That's true IME.

I have small indo dats and they act like Oscars when I'm around. I only have 1 rock and a fake plant and a background in the tank and these dats are always swimming and begging for food.

So I think that if you have dats (especially if you have only dats in the tank), don't give them cover and they'll be happier and more stable.

When I researched Tiger info I searched on Aquatic Predators, where a member named Ivan is an expert on Tigers. Then I also do research on Arofanatics.com, another great source for Tiger knowledge.

If we can some how combine all this knowledge, taht would make a great sticky.

I would suggest not giving dats live food. I used to give my dats live blackworms, but the risk of parasites isn't worth it. If your fish will take frozen food, that's always better IMO. Some fish will only eat live blackworms and I get them to eat frozen bloodworms by soaking the cube in Seachem Garlic Guard. The smell of the garlic gets them hungry and makes them want to eat the bloodworms.

dat care ?? i just filled my tank up with little ones over a year ago , kept the water quality good by monitoring it regulary and regular water changes , i have never had a prob healthwise with my dats , they have gone from 1 inch and are now ranging from 5 to 9 inch , i fed them massivore delight for first 6 months , then standard floating pellets or sinking pellets for a change ,i have a small light at one end of the tank , and no hiding places , just a bit of sand area with a bit of slate and a small bit of wood,
i feed every other day to keep them eager and most will hand feed , even jump out of the water to take a frozen from my hand lol,
i am glad i decided to keep dats , i think success with dats is more about how much time you spend with them , mine seem to have a certain bond/recognition with me that they will not show anyone else ,
i am glad i decided to stock dats , advise for anyone thinking of getting them ??? i would say ''nothing to be scared about, just keep the water good and dont feed to often , also with regard to the stable/unstable subject, i would say dont worry about it , just get yourself some dats ''
you know that non agressive oscar you would love to own ,, ??

I like this ;)

I noticed they have very distinct peronalities. ie. One of my larger dats is stable, a good hunter and eater. However, it is terrified of a yellow cichlid in it's tank which is a quarter its size (almost dinner size), and is always hiding from light. Wheras some of my smaller dats are much bolder, and even agressive towards the scared one.
