I'm not aware of any references in English. I suspect that some of the Japanese or Chinese language articles on Datnioides may address this issue. Much of the anecdotal references to long lifespans are undoubtedly inferences made from the large adult size and slow growth rates of dats.
very interesting... i have not seen any literature on this either. If their slow growth was the basis and the eventual size that they can attain, then they can easily reach 20 years.

They are quite long lived and have a life span of 10 years ++ thats as long as you dont put it with somthing that might make it shorter
Stotty, im trying to find out the age range... any fish except the smallest ones and with specific life/death cycles live at least 5 -10 years. Even the common goldfish can live up to 100 years.
I don't know, but the frustration in waiting for them to grow just cut back 20 years of MY life.
