datnoids flavor of the month?

two months ago saw the first datnoid on sale at my LFS for 200 dollars, and ever since i've seen so many datnoids for sale on the forum here, and people at the LFS talk about having them all the time, as well as TSN

do some fish all the sudden become popular and then like a fad, their popularity dies down and everyone moves on to the next fish? and is that why datnoids are so freaking expensive???

This hobby goes through fads. I personally don't see the appeal. But obviously enough people do...or want to impress others...that people are willing to shell out the $$$.

There was like a good period of time where all you saw was pbasses like a month ago. Hell I even considered getting one until I saw how big they got

Yeah definetaly. Cichla, Datnoides, and that damn JDM were all fads. The only one of those that's halfway decent are Cichla, JDM is ridiculous and Datnoides are ugly as sin IMO.

Japanese domestic market, pretty much overstocking barebottom tanks to the extreme.
