datnoids flavor of the month?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, it's having a tank with no substrate and more fish than water... imagine a puppy mill puppy cage, but with fish.

I have some tanks with no substrate (or just a bit of sand)...easy to clean.

Sounds like the JDM fad was an excuse to keep way too many big, random fish (like Dats) in way too little water. Isn't there some guy on here who keeps like 8 lungfish together with a bunch of bichirs and other big fish? Crazy that it works even for awhile...

Yeah definetaly. Cichla, Datnoides, and that damn JDM were all fads. The only one of those that's halfway decent are Cichla, JDM is ridiculous and Datnoides are ugly as sin IMO.
L0l, because keeping community fish is so much more decent? :nilly:

Exact opposite for me. I think Dat's look great and the Cichla are just butt ugly to me IMO. Their heads seem way to big for their body. I 100% agree both are fads and JDM is just a poor excuse to over stock.

p-bass, dats, tigrinus, endlis, (pretty much all lower jaw polys), platinum/other color morphs, perch, cuban and trop gars, clown loaches, aul.. there has been a whole lot of trends.. I remember when everyone was chasing azuls, that was freaky.. I personally love dats but that is because of their awesome intelligence and personality..

Don't blame the fish... It's the "fish keeper" who doesn't know what he/she likes... For example, asking what to stock his/her tank... Why setup a tank when he/she doesn't even know what is it for? :screwy:

No - that's my fishroom... :headbang2
As I said before, I also keep many tanks bare bottom (or with a few handfuls of substrate) for ease of cleaning.

Most of my tanks are 2'x2'x1' and have a breeding pair or group of small or medium-sized cichlids. That's a far cry from what I described with bunches of random monster fish jammed into a tank (or JDM, whatever that is)...

And, oh by the way, no Dats either.
