datnoids or not?

You can generalize a whole species...some fish are timid, some are aggressive, depends on the fish.

Ive had only 2 NTT(Thinbars) in my life, Ive got them both, they are great, ive had 0 problems. However i have seen alot of people on here lose their NTT due to unknown reasons.

Indo's is what i would choose if i were you. Theyre commonly seen at LFS now, and not too expensive.

Severums would be ok, if u got severums smaller then the dats, the DATS GROW SLOWER THEN ALMOST EVERY SINGLE CICHLID SPECIES!

dats will grow dependong on how well you take care of them maybe 3" a year if your lucky.

This is true when the Dats are small, but I have never seen any Dat go from 12" to 15" in a year. But I believe 1 to 4 is very do able when small.:D

Thanks

the problem is if the snakehead doesnt eat the Dat it will eat anythig smaller!!

Unless i cut the snakehead and add him in at a later date?

if so would a bichir eat a Ram?

Thanks
Matt

Thanks for the pictures

i think i will go for a thinbar, they are cheaper and i prefer their appearence. Are they hardy enough for a begginer? do they need brackish water? i am still not sure over quantity of Dats.

However I am at a loss with tank mates. i will keep the Silver dollars and the dehlzi bichir but am not sure about the cichlids or the snakehead. Any ideas about tank mates?I could do scrap the cichlids and have the bichir, the Dollars and the snakehead (possibly) and 1 Dat? i would do an all Dat tank but don't have enough ££ to pay for it:(. Could i add in the cichlids when the Dats bigger?

Thanks
Matt

It depends on the size of the ram and poly, and where can you get NTT cheap? I can't get any for less than £25.

O.K thanks

how about Uaru?

sorry lol by cheap i mean cheapER than an Indo.

The link i gave you wildwoods is a great shop for oddballs and thry run a delivery service if u want to give them a go if you are in England.

how about Uaru? I believe that they need to be in a shoal (preferably a species tank)and are very timid, if im thinking about the right fish. but i might be wrong.

What is a "Geo"? Your foot note kinda snagged my attention.
Its a Geophagus. many different kinds.

Thanks for the help guys

I have decieded on a final stock list...

Dat (species to be decieded)
4 Silver Dollars
1 Dehlzi bichir

AND 1 rainbow snakehead when the other fish are bigger

so the question remains Indo or Thinbar?

i prefer the appearance of Thinbars but have heard they are not very good for begginers, however the shop i would be buying them from says the are "perfect for begginers".
