Datnoid's stability mystery

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There's really nothing "odd" about it. That type of behaviour with regards to what hobbyists consider stable, and unstable, is actually very common with this species. I attempted to explain some of the possible reasons for that in my previous comment. :)

Maybe I should have read it then! Thanks RD

I need to spark up my fish life

Yes, that might have helped. lol

Hopefully my previous comment helps resolve the age old mystery of stable vs unstable.

The biggest healthiest Indos I've seen have bars of some shade of brown. Jet black bars on large indos makes me wonder if they were tampered with to show bright colors (changing décor, changing tanks) to get a quick pic, tankmate aggression or malnourishment. There are some needles in the hackstack i believe. The only way of truly knowing if a thick healthy Indo is a 100% "stable" with jetblack bars is to observe for yourself in person on multiple occasions if purchasing from a stranger (esp is gd money is being spent). Some smaller Indos seem to show jet black striping more often for whatever reasons..

STs stay stable most of time. When they do go unstable, they only turn a lil bit dark. Could still still the solid bars

When my dats are around other predatory tank mates or about to square off w/ another fish, they turn sooo golden...

Mods should sticky this

From what I have learned over the last 20 months are dimmer lights, darker gravel and calm tank mates that are out and about. I tried tons of setups but this was the trick for my 5 dats to stable up and stay stable.

I kinda just did a experiment on my datnoids. They're always black and all sudden i just cut a shrimp into big pieces and threw it into my tank. While they're chewing on the shrimp they became bright yellow while chewing on the shrimps.
