Datnoid's stability mystery

Is it maybe caz most ST are older now so maybe the older they r, the more stable? [\quote]
I'm not too sure about that one either as I have seen plenty of pictures of small/young ST that were just as bright and stable as adults.

also i dunno if this is true but a really experienced fish keeper once told me he remembers all ITs tend to be stable 10 - 15 years ago that they used to look just like a ST but with more bars, i cannot attest to this coz i wasnt keeping dats back then, wonder if any long time dat keepers have any thoughts about this; his theory from there is that the current younger ITs somehow contain bad genes due to contaminated wild stock, pollution, etc making them prone to unstability

this is not true

I'm convinced after tinkering with my indo dats and NGT that stability has to be forced, lol! So, result is that I use full spectrum bright lighting and take all the decos away for them to be GQ magazine material, i.e. "handsome!"

Kinda working on it. Ya, they do kinda want to corner. I just moved this bunch a couple weeks ago and having the lights on more often. Just giving it a shot. I know that if I throw in a cichlid in there, most dats will get stable. It gets them on edge from my opinion.

more than a year after my first post in this thread and in that span of time i can say that unstable IT's are happy IT's.

Awesome tank what size?
I have noticed that when they're aware of an aggressive fish their strips are more bold...uploadfromtaptalk1352160604500.jpg
Nothing threatening them lol

Personally I like the fact they can change stability. It's neat to see them go all black and camouflage and then the next minute BAM he's got a mouth full of krill and suddenly stable. This is my first datnoid, so I have nothing to compare it to. I do admire it for its predatory instincts..

I still don't know ....

One day recently, my daughter asked, what's that *white* fish in the tank? I was like *white fish???* It turned out to be one of my 10"-11" IT's was turning completely pale, almost no stripes left. I was worried for a few seconds there, but he was fine. If that's is happiness, I wouldn't like it! :)
