when he gets to know you (my dat is over a year old now) they react to your presence when around the tank. but even that, doesn't make him eat pellets lol. he looks at them, then looks at me like "you think im gonna eat that crap"

thats too funny.. come to think of it, mine does that too. although, i think my Datnoid is cross eyed or something. He sometimes doesnt see food directly above him and runs at the glass cause of the reflection instead, anyone else have that problem?

I feed him frozen krill too. They tend to float. Havent had success feeding him pellets, even though the tinfoil barbs constantly show that it's food. So dither fish didnt work either. =/ any other suggestions guys?

I've only had mine for a little over a month and they always greet me with the happy feed me dance. So they definitly know me and they know I feed in the evening because that's when they come out and get excited everytime I am anywhere close to them. There so funny.

Keep them with some fish that feed aggressively. I used cichlids, after a week mine stated to pound the Hikari pellets at the surface.

im still having a hard time getting mines to take pellets aswell =[ but I did in fact get my 1-1.5" indo dat to eat pieces of raw market shrimp from my hand =] but then whenever I throw in some cichlids pellets for the dovii's and umbee's he try's them at the top but then soon enough he'll just swim back to the bottom waiting for some shrimp

I've starved a lot of my dats, especially my ngts. I pumped them up with lots of live ghost shrimp and then starved them for 2 months. I dont expect people to follow my methods as it may seem extreme. I refuse to feed live and they usually learn to eat whatever I want them to eat. I highly suggest higher protien pellets like Dainichi growth, Hikari food sticks, sinking carnivore, and massivore delite. But variation is key to good health. Check out my food list

my AT finally ate a floating pellet last night! i'm so excited. my front ate one for the first time, too. if I didn't have the jag in there, i doubt either of them would have. I can't get ANY fish to eat floating pellets besides SA/CA cichlids

I must have one of those rare dats... he ate pellets right from the get go, sinking carnivore, massivore, even munches down on the occasional algae waffer I throw in for the black and white spotted bucktooth pleco...

Based on experience, ATs are the easiest to feed dry foods. IT, NGT, NTT, and WB are the hardest. Only my AT takes pellets. I will try the krill method tomorrow though.
