Hey~

I am interested in getting a Dat and am starting to research it to see if it is somethin I can even consider. Can I get whatever you can give me, Links, Suggestions for feeding, Water(brackish??), Compatibilty, Proper tank size for a Adult.

Just reasearching, I have found out that they would not be compatable with any of my Ca/Sa(s) so I would have to get him his own space.

A 125 would be fine for a single datnoid for quite a long time. They take a very long time to get to a large size.

I have never had any problems keeping whatever with my datnoids. They don't bother anything and nothing bothers them. As long as tankmates are not small enough to fit in their mouths and vice versa it should be fine.

All datnoids except the silver datnoid can be kept in full freshwater with no problems at all.

Feeding is fun...feed them bloodworms, krill and beefheart when small. When they get larger you can start to feed smelt and prawns. I have only ever had one datnoid that would take pellets.

IMO they are an extremely easy fish to take care of.

Having said that though they can be extremely frustrating to keep as well. There is nothing I hate more than an unstable datnoid. This is when the supposed to be gold datnoid turns black and constantly hides

If you are patient though it may eventually adapt to its environment, become stable and become very interactive. An interactive datnoid is a very cool fish

I would suggest if possible to buy a widebar datnoid. These guys seem to stay more stable than other types. If you could get 3 or more that would be even better. They like to be groups.

My guys are not large, and the O is only around for a short while, until I find him a permanent home. but they are:

Male Tex @ 4"
Male JD @ 4-5"
Female GT @ 4-5"
Pic Cat @ 4"
Striped Raphael @ 3"

& For now...

Tiger O @ 5"+ (again, he is just hanging around, and keeping my Texas in line right now)

Would that work with a Dat?

Will they take Freeze Dried Krill?? My Guys love it! (Except the Tex, Go Figure) I Have no problem with the BloodWorms, The Beefheart, and I will offer also Brine Shrimp, and Pellets.

Not sure on the NGT...I have not kept one before.

But the Indonesian and Siamese tigers in my experience are quite hardy.

All of the fish are a small size so I don't see it being a problem.

Just make sure all the fish are the same size.

Keep an eye on it though.

i think you'll be ok. I have a dat thats being housed with a golden cobra snakehead which is roughly the same size (4-5"). They are being housed with a group of clown loaches that are 2" or under and the dat doesn't even pay attention to them.
