great tank i love the driftwood and the inhabitants great job. i especially like your substrate. i was wonder what type you used

Its just "builders sand" from the local hardware store.

Tanks too big to manage leaf litter IMO, they'll get burried by the geos digging and start breaking down under the sand, either that or get pushed around by the flow from the filter. I agree it would look great, but too much hard work for me!

Yeah funny story that... :(

Lost one over the overflow as previously mentioned, managed to get a replacement and I forgot about a small gap at the back of the tank where the spraybar goes in and less than two weeks later it was on the floor, dead. I feel like an absolute retard. Don't fancy my chances of getting another one.

If they're as expensive as they are over here, I don't blame you, especially if you've lost two.

Still, you'd get away with a giga-shoal of some small Characins now or perhaps something like a Flagtail? I had success with Hydrolycus Tatauaia with my Geophagus too, but I would imagine that's not the direction you'd want to go... (Just a hunch).

So what's next then? :D

I would buy another if I could, they simply aren't available at the moment, and who knows when they will be next, could be years away...

I've decided to chuck my school of 40 lemon tetras in there when I put the 6 uaru grow outs in there this afternoon. We don't get any Hydrolycus here, otherwise I'd be keen. I had thought about adding a flagtail but decided against it as they get huge, don't really want that many big fish in the tank, as it is already I'm going to have to do some thinning out down the track.
