Dead Black worms

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fresh black worms should be rinsed in cold tap water (chlorine free) daily and kept in the refrigerator in a container with an uncovered or loosely fitting lid. I prefer to keep them in a long flat Tupperware container. I add cold water to the container, then tip it slowly to let the dead worms & any detritus drain off, repeating this procedure until all I see are live worms. Only keep enough water in the container to cover the worms with about 1/4" of water.

If your worms are fresh & lively when purchased, they should keep at least a week when maintained this way. If you have chlorine or chloramine in your tap water, you can always keep a gallon jug of treated water in the frig to rinse your worms daily.

just rinse then out,but should fine. i feed my fish dead worms all the time. Remember some fish are scavenger so they eat dead fish.

The disease thread above is from a friend of mine who accidentally fed bad blackworms... ended up giving the tank septicemia, which spread to his other tank through shared python use during water changes. He lost most of his fish, and by the time he figured out what it was and how to cure it, it cost him a lot of money, not to mention the heartache of the loss.

I personally don't feed any live food, and if I did I would be VERY careful.

Thank you for the warning. its hard to get away from them though. my clown loaches and baby dats love them. I am going to try raising my own black worms to stay away from disease.

They only eat what you feed them... my clowns love frozen bloodworms as much as anything. Goodluck though!
