I understand that people kill animals for food. The problem here is that dolphns are at the top of the aquatic food chain and we've dumped so much crap in the ocean that the mercury levels in dolphin can be thousands of times higher than what's recognized as safe. Let's not kill animals and then poison our children (mercury contaminated dolphin meat was being served in Japanese schools) or anyone else for that matter.

They are killing enough for winter and living creatures do have alot of blooding in them, ever see the floor of a slaughter house?

Actually these primitives pop up from time to time on MFK. First most of the meat is wasted as it's too tainted with mercury to be safe in any quantity. Second dropping a deer with a .308 from a head shot (faster, more skill required and requires less running) or a cow getting wacked with a captive bolt stunner is very different than a marine mammal getting harpooned, or slashed and dieing slowly.

You should watch the cove, its very sad, but informative and you can help save the dolphins.

i watched 'the cove' on a flight to dubai, virgin atlantic, it got me sooooo mad, very informative and inspiring what some of the people were doing to save them. Even with the scientific proof they are full of mercury people still eat them

Since most parts of the whales are being used and not just wasted, and the number of whales being taken isn't enough to destroy the population, i have no problem with it. We do much worse to the animals that we eat, we just don't get pictures of the process.

Thats right,if young children such as this child are'nt introduced to the practice and shown the way then who else will carry on the slaughter after the elders finally die off.But then again,there may not be any dolphins left to mass slaughter by the time this little tyke becomes old enough to ply what he's learned.

read the article the type of dolphin they are hunting aren't in very bad shape, and if they were ever to be, I doubt this small island that follows specific regulations would be the cause.

read the article it says most meat is utilised although it says they are high in mercury. Also they don't use harpoons they drive the whales to beach themselves with ropes then kill them by severing the spine. The ones that don't quite make it to the beach are pulled ashore by blunt hooking devices. They aren't allowed to kill them if they aren't on shore.

btw you may be interested in how kosher meat is prepared, they slash the animals throat just deep enough for it to put out a lot of blood, then let it struggle until all the blood is pumped out of its body. The blood in the whales case is incidental to servering the spine since they must pass through arteries.

The article does not broach the matter of the oceans being overfished which means less food for the dolphins so there are less dolphin as time goes by.These people are certainly doing their part to decimate the dolphin population in their area.Japan is another island who consumes aquatic mammals even though there are rules and regulations in place that they thumb their noses at.

What ever animal that is killed for kosher meat can't really be used as an example here because they are not pulled from the wild population but they are farmed,mass produced for human consumption.I'm not against killing animals for food but I'm not aware of any farms that produce an endless supply of dolphin.

I actually feel better killing animals from the wild then from massed produced farms, provided they aren't endangered. The wild ones atleast get to live life before they die the mass produced ones are basically raised in small pens and feed high calorie and antibiotic foods.

for reference that island takes in around 0.1 % of what the regulatory bodies deemed a sustanible amount.

edit: btw I got that figure from the north american marine mammal commision. Some say the number they provided is too large but even if its half what they estimate this island is still under 1 %.

If an animal has to be hunted and killed in order for it to be eaten then what does it matter how much of it's life it lived,what is important is how much flesh it can provide....The way that things are going currently with environmental destruction on a worldwide scale,any animals that are hunted in the wild will soon be endangered and wiped out.Then all we will have to depend on will be our farms.
