If an animal has to be hunted and killed in order for it to be eaten then what does it matter how much of it's life it lived, what is important is how much flesh it can provide....The way that things are going currently with environmental destruction on a worldwide scale, any animals that are hunted in the wild will soon be endangered and wiped out. Then all we will have to depend on will be our farms.
By buying from those feed lot animals you support the practice, Ideally if I had the money I would buy free range(which is a type of farming where animals are allowed to roam around) animals each time I go to the store. I believe the quality of life animal has is important. I'm not totally insensitive to how animals are treated, I just recognize the fact killing dolphins sustainibly for food isn't different then how we treat other animals.

Mgk you are right untill this

it IS diffrent we are taking wild animals that are't ment to be eaten. Its like a catch and release with out the release, those fish are't ment to be eaten.

Animals and people eat other animals it doesn't matter where they are from. Farms are something we humans invented to make it so we could have more meat more consistently then what we would catch in the wild. It's not because there is a law of nature that says wild animals aren't meant to be eaten. As krichardson said we can't keep it up at our current pace but I think the Faroe islands aren't over fishing them.

I don't know enough of the Faroe islands economy to say how bad off they would be now if they didn't do this but I can tell you they can't grow crops there. I think its a safe bet since they can't farm crops they can't raise many animals there. They probably really need the what they catch from the sea considering they still eat the dolphin meat even though its so high in mercury.

yes but this is just overkill, we are in 21st centrey they can figure something out, like Hydroponics. I remember the stage when i thought killing bugs was fun.

Even though i didnt eat them it was fun to kill them. And eventualy they will be endangered. Example, the dodo bird. PLENTY of them were running around freely. then BOOM! we started killing them off in huge numbers like this. next thing you know, there extinct.

repost. i remember liz posting this awhile back. realy sad though.

Its actually the Faroe Islands and its been a way of life there for 1200 years since first settled. I would say its like hunting here in the US for deer or whatever else you hunt.

They are killing them to eat. as said before they don't kill that many of them compared to the total population or even the recommend catch limit for sustainable harvesting, they have been doing it since they have lived there. The IUCN lists them as "Conservation dependent" which means if they are harvested in guidelines they will be fine.

It's fine if the blood in the water disturbs you and makes you over react to how many they are taking, but there is no good argument for them not to do it, other then the "killing animals to eat is wrong" one.
