Yesterday i went to feed my Aussie Aro and i found him dead!!! a few hours before hewas fine and the night before he was fine and had a real good meal. he looks perfect!!! the water specs are pH 7.5, KH 8, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 12.5mg/l. all in all water is fine!!. he was always eating and looked happy enough. i had him nearly 3 months and no probs at all. i do weekly water changes about 25% and he has no aggressive tank mates at all. just some plecs and some clown loach.

i have had this happen before too couple year back an no explanation. no one would have got to the tank either to put anything in either. i have heard that this is a probem with Aussie's, an no one know's whats wrong?
i asked a few LFS (Wholesale Tropicals, Home Marine etc) but they know nowt too.

so if anyone knows whats worng please help me!!!!
Why did the Aussie Aro die?

Sorry fot the poor aussie girl. Sometimes things like this happen..do not discourage.

its quite disheartening because i waited prob two years to find this one as i could not get one anywhere prior to this one. i tried so hard to keep it happy and feeding an then this happens for no apparent reason.

what size ???

I believe the survival rate of fry at that size is around 30%, I lost one around tht size too. He was fine, grew an inch (was still tiny) and up and died. I was sure enough that I tested my water, perfect, other fish were fine, it wasn't something I did.

Something was probably just wrong with that fish. I've seen quite a few threads here about this very subject, size, I know it's depressing and frustrating, but my next one did fine and that was last October. The replacement was fine, he's over 13" now.

Sorry for your loss, but don't beat yourself up over it. Go get another one, it'll make you feel better!

i want to find out why this keeps happening to people though. at Home Marine we have many close friends and contacts in high places. one of them being the guy who bred ALL the Clown fish for T.M.C. in britain.i have personally talked with the guy and he know's everything about everything about everything. he knows a fair bit about freshwaters too. he has his own lab and no currently is the joint founder of New Era food. i am gonna see if he can have a look at the fish itself and see if he can see anything. will keep people posted.

It could have possibly jumped and injured itself internally.. not saying this happened but possibility and you would not know it just by looking at him.. regardless of why i feel sorry that this happend especially a second time around.. but that is a very small size 3 inches,...they are delicate at the small size.. hope you get another.. soon!
