thank you for your kind contribution of nothing to this thread :headbang2
LOL...From the provided links it appears that Capt.Hansen is bowing out in support of the brothers.

That sucks. I was just getting into that show. Although I'm disappointed the Hillstrands and Hansens are leaving, I'll probably still watch it to see the Harris boys and how they are coping with the loss of their father. Jake and Josh I know wanted to keep fishing in honor of their father, but I think Phil made it look easy and they are going to have their hands full.

Besides the Cornelia Marie, my other two favorite boats were the Northwestern and closely followed by the Time Bandit. Without them they'll loose me as a viewer. C'mon who actually liked the Wizard? Disappointing to see such a great show go under.

Yeah it sucks and all but did these guys enter into an agreement or not,was a contract signed?

I don't see why it is the networks fault. The fishermen entered into a contract with Discovery and failed to honour that agreement. Anyone else would be sued, from large corporations to an unemployed guy.
If they didn't want to do the spin off then they shouldn't have signed up to it, what the hell did they think was going to happen when Discovery made it happen, paid to have some of it done and they then the guys fail to finish the project?
Did they think Discovery were just going to say "Oh well, win some you lose some" and write off the loss?

I don't think Discovery should get to destroy the mens livelyhood though, that is a step too far. Monthly payments, withholding royalties and getting payments made to the guys for the new show returned is a better idea for paying off the lawsuit.
However, as hard a fact as it is to take on board they made this happen to themselves.

On a side note, surely there is a law to protect big business from suing the little man for so much that they have to give up their home and livelyhood?
Afterall it is the tax payer who will have to look after them once big business is done chewing these guys up.

I totally agree with you on the Wizard, the fact that the Captain blows through 6 green horn.... means the Captain doesnt trust people... I'm not saying the others are any better or not.. but Look at the Northwesterns Boat, that fact they got Jake on means alot about the Sig Hanson, also there was a possibility that his brother Edgar was leaving.. I actually wanted to see how he was doing.. not to mention Jake's father is still missing since last season.. that really sucks..

Then theres the Harris brothers.. I wanted to see if they would continue on fishing..

So much i have invested in this series that without the Northwestern... it is a HUGE blow to the show... :(

From what i understand reading about the lawsuit 2-3 weeks ago.. the Hillstrands Brothers both Andy and Jonathan did sign a contract to do a spin-off show for off season, they filmed about 1-2 month of content in June or July.. but the networked needed more material..

There was suppose to be an interview, but the brothers hired a lawyer and told Discovery channel to pretty much backoff and leave them alone....

In some ways, I understand Discovery Channel's action for the lawsuit.. it really does take a damper on their production, its money invested and lost..

But 3 million? for a Crab fishermen it would take them 3 years or more to pay off that amount.. and they are right.. it will cost them their entire crew.. Each season the Timebandit makes roughly 1 million. And i recall from their an episode where the Northwestern, Sig said that each captain has to pay the crew, the boat's Gas and the bail.. not to mention the taxes.. so in some ways.. both parties are losing out..

But someone. the deep pocket always wins. .and the little guy always lose.. I think Sig was smart to play the tagging along card with the Hanson.. cuz he knows without his Boat.. Viewers are none too happy about this..

I hope Discovery comes up with some sorta deal soon to try to get Sig back if not both the hillstrand brothers.. (I doubt tho, Knowing both Andy and Jonathan's Hillstrand's character)

neat show my dad worked on the Time Bandit for years when i was a kid..neat to watch them on tv we have old vids of the boats way back when he used to bring home...hope the show keeps going
