Deaf people

I'm not blind, just can't see

Completely separate category of the five senses has nothing to do with hearing. lets stay on topic.

I wonder what a person born deaf thinks in their head. Like we think in sentences in our head right? Well what do they think in their head?

I've always wondered this too. Do deaf people think in images or in sign language? How do they think?

I had a coworker who is from El Salvador so English is his second language. One day, a friend asked him, "Do you think in English or Spanish?" What a brilliant question. I have wondered that since whenever I meet someone to whom English is a second language. Do you think in your mother tongue? Or I also wonder about people raised in bilingual homes. Which language do they think in, or do they think in both and don't even think about it? ...I could go on... lol

Actually they do thinking in subtitles, signs or even speaks. How I know? I've done all three. But when you are sleeping at night and your dreaming.....you do not sign......you actually speaks!

I spent a year as an exchange student in Mexico. I didn't know much Spanish when I first got there, but I managed to pick up quite a bit by six months or so. I remember pretty clearly the first time I realized that I was thinking in Spanish, it was a pretty strange feeling. It takes me a while to switch, but once I start thinking in Spanish I can speak a lot more freely - translating your thoughts is way too cumbersome for a real conversation.

That is really interesting! Do you or have you ever heard at all? Sorry if that is too personal, but I am just curious.

I got a surgery last year's July for cochlear implant so I can hear but still has a long ways to go! (trying to understand the sounds and what the sounds are). Need take a speech therapy through since I has never speaks or read lips.

Wow, that must be quite a trip! Good luck with the speech therapy. I can imagine it will be a lot of work, it takes hearing people years to figure it all out, and going into it as an adult must make it quite a bit harder.

Oh yeah it's harder to balance the speech therapy, advaced biology classes at college and live on your own for first time :nilly:
