Dealing with Severum on Severum aggression?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Anyone know how to tell the age of a red belly piranha's? My red bellys average 4 inches but still have spots

not a sure thing but it could be one of your other fish instigating the trouble. i had a red devil that i was switching between tanks a lot until i got him one of his own. whenever i put him in the severums my gold would go nuts. attacked everything else in the tank. with no red devil shes remarkably placid though. the gold female and male turquoise have tried to breed in my tanks and shes not even that mean when protecting her eggs.

I can guarantee there is nothing else in the tank causing the Green to act aggressive. Other than some tetras and cory cats, the only other cichlids are the 5 Red Head Tapajos, and those guys are the most laid back and chill fish in the tank, and have been in longer than the Green Severum.

Only way you are getting those is if you pry them from my cold, dead hands!

I don't think I've ever had fish that I liked more than these guys. I can't wait till they really start to color up!

Alright fine, $100 each and they are yours.

ok i usually dont take so much for adopting fish but if you insist i will.

but nah mines going in a community tank. if he doesnt get along with everybody or doesnt blossom I'll consider a group or maybe giving him to someone with a nice group. i didnt know they were so finicky about that when i bought but im reading it everywhere now.

Any or all of the above could be true ime. Or not... sevs are among the fish where individual fish can be different, and circumstances in a tank, tankmates, etc. are different. I have found that tank space makes a difference and sometimes a group vs. two that dislike each other helps, but there's no single, always true rule ime.

Reasonable approach to keep that option. Being in groups is a common notion with some truth to it, more so when they're small and more so as a comfort thing, but it's not a cosmic law. Some are okay alone.
