Its TOXIC if you "dump it" into the tank. BTW, do you like salt in your open wounds?

I use salt for osmoregulation. Slime production is stimulated according to the salt concentration...its an irritant in even small doses.
Salt as a medication is used to remove external parasites and again, because it is an irritant, and again, effective based on the concentration.
As far as assisting in healing, its just cauterizing the wound. Ouch.

To what degree do the fish detect irritation? IDK. A mild irritation may not cause discomfort. On the other hand, placed into an open wound.....

Dont get me wrong, salt is a good thing when used properly. It is often used in place of more effective means however.

The OP titled the thread "DEAR GOD HELP ME".....with an overexaggerated titled like that you don't think "dumped in the salt" is an exaggeration too?

I'm sure she meant added salt. Salt in an aquarium is normal, it's not the same as dumping salt on a wound in human since the salt is dissolved in the water as oppose to being directly applied to the wound.

On another note, i remember when your Ps got those bites JP. WAsn't it only a week later and they were all healed up? I remember it being pretty fast

The concentration of salt when you add to a tank full of water (with correct dosage) is totally different than you directly adding them to open wound, and it's much mild on fish than most meds.
it helps to prevent bacterial, fungal infection in OP's situation.
I don't think salt is a good med for removal of external parasites, the only thing that I can think of is ich.

Here's a helpful link for people that want to read up a bit more on salt.

yea, they healed up pretty fast, may take a little longer for it to completely heal up and go away but within the 1st week the wound started to heal and close up.

I didn't just dump the salt in sorry for the brash typing. I was freaked and late for work, lol! I did 1tbps per 10 gallons. I put the temp down last night to 82. The injuries aren't as bad as jp's pics, no guts hanging out, just perfect little half-moon bites.

@ballin-yeah I'm a drama queen, I just thought it was gonna turn into a bloodbath! And I am very attached to all of them. Thanking for calming my fears. I will be more subdued on posts from now on;)

@boldtogether--I'm not a masochist, I've used it before in my hospital tank with my now thriving 8'' piranha...who is btw the one taking chunks out of the babies...lol.

Check for a rise in ammonia level. Any leftover food? Last time you did a water change? Does your test kit only check PH level?
