Death-row Discus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mamapuff, were to begin, first I'm sorry to hear about your Oma (are you dutch? Oma = dutch for grand mother)

For your rescue pffffffffffff you are playing high risk honey.

First you bring a very sick Discus into your house, second you put one of your Discus with the sick one. Before I go on, a friend of mine bought 1 Discus from a wrong source (don't want to go deeper in on this, not the place, not the time) This Discus was in a separated tank, nothing from that tank is used on one of his other tanks, the 1 fish brought an airborn problem in to his fish room and wiped him complete out, he lost for more as $7,000.00 with just 1 wrong fish.

Let's go on 3) you catch snails from the tank with the sick Discus and feed them to your other tanks (or did I understand this wrong) you possibly transport all crap this Discus has to your other tanks 4) 5) 6) I can keep on going on.

My dear I know your intentions are wonderful but some times it's better to let something go and don't bring your other animals in danger by trying to save something what you in no way can safe anymore.

Am I cruel??? No I think of the other fish in your house,

just my 2 cents,

Hans

You're not cruel. Just bringing up very valid points that are true, but none of us want to think about........

Too true, best of luck with the recovery! Adopted fish have so much more meaning...

Hans,
I'm German :) We call our grandmas Oma and Omi (O-mee) too. I didn't know that Oma was Dutch too. Thats really neat.

You do bring up very good/ valid points in your response and I think I let a little more of my heart get in the way. I seem to always want to save something, which sometimes is my downfall. The day I cleared out that tank to bring him home, I did feed snails to my other tanks as they accumulated like crazy as soon as the loaches were moved. From that point forward, all snails have stayed in that tank. I had planned to let them all grow out a bit while the tank was being treated for the discus, then feed them to the rest of the tanks.

I made the mistake of putting the others in to be treated, thinking that preventative treatment would be better for the two new ones, as well as Trooper and the white one.

So, I had to make an emergency trip to Houston on Wednesday (2/24) morning at 2 am. Oma had seen Jesus and my dad called and said it was time to say goodbye. I rushed down and got in at 5 am, and said my goodbyes....

Here's the good news, after the doctors caught their F*** up, her vitals stabilized. No one could figure out why she was seeing Jesus though. Over the next few days she improved and they did surgery on her hip on Thursday. She was up on her walker scooting around on Saturday when I left to come home

Thank you to you all who sent prayers and well wishes. I made a deal with the big man upstairs as we drove, (me hysterical most of the way). I told him take my fish instead any, all, whatever he wanted, just not her.

Well, I came home, and Trooper, Buddy (the white discus), my one eyed albino tin foil barb, and a few of my other guys died. My saltwater tank suffered as well. All anemones dead. All tanks super low on water. Sigh* Even with someone coming to check on them

It's ok though. I gave it a good shot, and as I said before, life happens. 4 sets of water changes later, I feel more content and ready for the next challenge. Even stumbled upon a new rescue yesterday that just happened to come home with me.

Separate thread to follow.

RIP Trooper and Buddy and friends
