i have to say, those really are beautiful fish. i love those geos. I swear i'm not trying to be antagonistic at all - just curious because i'm collecting data for my own private research. How do you guys feel about keeping fish and doing everything you can to keep them safe, healthy, etc, and then fishing them out of the water (hooks? nets?) it's like the moral schizophrenia about loving dogs, eating pigs, wearing cows, etc.
just curious, not trying to cause a problem or anything.

really though, that must have been an astonishing trip. that part of the world is absolutely beautiful. i wish i could visit sometime (my sister lived in costa rica for a few years - loved it!)

I had no problem collecting these fish because we were collecting them responsibly and keeping them alive. Everyday we were performing 2 complete water changes on the fish thus we lost very few fish. In fact I still have almost every fish I brought back. Every where we collected we did very minimal damage to the environment, if any at all. Also the local people do not fish these fish for their diet so they are plentiful. I know throughout the world fish are not collect in a manor that is safe for the fish or the environment, but Felipe (the guide) is very good at varying up his collecting locations and making sure only fish wanted are taken. This is an awesome trip and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to go!
