The Real Norcal
I am in the middle of setting up a deal on aquabid to add the perfect "finishing touch" to my tank. Right now this is what we are at:

For $485 which includes overnight priority mail I will be receiving

1 6-7" male D.compressiceps (malawi eye biter)
1 11" male c. carelues (malawi trout)
1 6.5-8" male B. microleps (emperor cichlid)
1 6" male Maleri Iceberg
1 8.5" male Tyranochromis Nigriventor

I don't know the average prices on the cichlids, I just know that I feel like it is a decent price given their size, coloration, and rarity.

Any input from some African Cichlid aficionados?

looks pretty good just make sure you quarentine first for about 4-6 days with warmer temps than in your tank

I would estimate each fish to cost around $30-40, $500 shipped is ridiculous. Unless you have the money to spend and get ripped off.

Are you for real?you can get deals like that?where?

I don't see these fish for sale very often but when I do see them at this size they are a lot more than 30-40 each....:(

Where can I get these fish for 30-40 each?! I really need some sites because that is a huge difference from what I'm paying...:nilly:

My lfs sells small Malawi eye biters for $15 (1.5"-2"), medium for $30(3-4") and large for $60 (5-6")

Malawi trout I hardly ever see for sale and when they are around I see smalls sold for $20 , medium for $40-$45 and large (hardly ever) for $80+

I never see emperor cichlids sold at any LFS but when they are on the net they are usually around $40 for small ones, and I have NEVER seen a medium or large one for sale.

I dont know about maleri iceberg, but any peacocks of 6"+ is going to a lot at any LFS within 300 miles of me.... $40 would be a huge bargain.I expect they would charge at least $50.

I have NEVER EVER seen ANY Tyranochromis Nigreventor for sale for a REALLY long time, and when I did babies where $45 and one over 8" is unheard of.

Don't get me wrong I am not trying to argue and appreciate your input but I also need your help if you know where I can get these particular cichlids for $30-$40 each at these sizes please share!

I live in Redding, CA and can travel 300 miles south to Sac or 500 miles north to Portland and could find the probably the eye biter and MAYBE the trout and the maleri but definitely not at these sizes and definitely not the emperor nor the T.N.

BTW $95 of this is pure shipping costs because I am using Fedex due to the fact that the nearest airport to me that can be shipped to is 300 miles south in Sac.

Someone please give me some better places to buy these semi-rare to uber rare rare cichlids this size shipped to my door and I would gladly cut you in on some of the money I save...gladly. ;)

Otherwise I am going to go ahead with the transaction......

Wow, I guess the east coast has cheaper fish. I see malawi trout (at least 5+") go for around $10-12 each. And eye biters for a lot less.

Join a local fish forum, find breeders and buy.

I can get the
-D.compressiceps (malawi eye biter) 3" size $10
-c. carelues (malawi trout) 4" size $10

Currently in stock at my LFS. Don't know about the rest of the list. Most LFS don't carry those fish in larger sizes at any given time.

I'd say your gettin' the deal of the century............my local is That Fish Place.

Juvie Tyranno's are $65 bucks and the more common macrostoma
Never seen an Emperor there @ any price, most larger haps ie Emperess' are $60 @
5-6" same with the peacocks - the rarer versions up to $100.
Juvi- eyebitters are $15 never seen a 7" one for sale - only mine(not for sale) @ 8+"
Malawi Trout are $13 for 1-2" @ 11" I'd guess he'd sell for an easy $150 and go real fast. I'm there pretty much every week for feeders food supplies - although the eyebitters are a dime a dozen the rest may only come in 1-2 times a year.

My recent scores at that fish ain't cheap either - 2" Black Piranha -$60, 4" Red tail cuda $40, Vampire tetra-Raph 5" $40, vampire plec 6"+ $70, 6" Armored Bichir $60 -rare fish aren't cheap even though most of the above may be considered common there not shipped in great quantites nor at great frequency-just sit in the store for long periods of time for varies reasons.

I think @ $500 shipped yours are a steal!

I think you could get a way better deal. I'll try to look them up for you.

I paid $6 ea for
C Careuleus
D Dimidiatus (more expensive than D Comp)

Then,
T Nigriventer (on-line now for $12)
