they wouldnt be allowed to market a product which is 100% ineffective in a job for which the said product is advertised for. water trade or not, trading standards in the uk would string em up by the goolies for mislabelling a product and for false advertising. quite simply the law doesnt allow for it. i dont know how strict your trading standards are in the US but i know here a company as large as tetra would not be able to get away with that.

LOL I don't care what the laws are. They may have tests that show it undetectable which does not mean its been removed. There are additives that can mask a substance so its not tested. I.E "nitrate removers" All they do is change the make up of the ions so it doesn't come up on a nitrate test as nitrates. Really there still there. Once again I may be wrong about the chlorine debate, but about this I quote Tom Green "I know damn right!!"

are the 8 people who voted no just people who use well water??? or just using tap and not adding anything?? please chime in so we can hear your responses.

No wonder the mortality rate of fish is 90% in the first few months........ Crazy thread.

LOL ok be insulting, question my ability to keep fish because I started a thread like this. If you don't have anything constructive to say go play with your friends. Big people are talking.

I don't use archaic time consuming methods like buckets, so I do need to use it. I go from tap to tank, and I don't want a mini cycle after every water change.

My thoughts exactly. If you have a 29 gallon tank this may work...although there are more chemicals in water than just chlorine. i would rather play it safe and buy into the "scam".

Aeration dissipates typical tap water quantities of Chlorine in about 24 hours…

Aeration does very little to dissipate Chlamorines…

Most municipalities around the civilized world use Chlamorines instead of, or as well as, chlorine…

In my opinion/experience… you got real lucky that you didn’t have any ill effects when you stopped using dechlorinator… To promote others to take this same risk hoping to get lucky like you did is both ignorant and rude…

I feel your comments in this thread are dangerous to other forum members… specifically these for the following reasons…

I just wanted to see how many people actually pay for this scam???

Suggesting that I am stupid enough to be falling for a scam is pretty rude. So if you are incorrect, you are owe every reader of this thread a personal apology.

come on folks your victims of really good marketing

More of the same…

If you add water to your tank directly. Chlorine is then the highest point. It has no ill effect on fish. Then people add the conditioner.

In this quote you said chlorine has no ill effect on fish… what gives you the authority to make such an assumption when decades of science proves the opposite?

Chago09;2462348; said:
perhaps some of you have toxic water and your municipalities add like 50/50 mix of water and chlorine. I don't know.

Far less than a 50/50 mix would be toxic to humans as well as fish. Providing false numbers to promote your false claim is both rude and ignorant of you.

Chago09;2462403; said:
Again like I said earlier, unless your city pulls water from a swamp and adds like tons and tons of chlorine and chloromine, you should not have any problems

More exaggerations to trick us into believing your false claims.

Note to the readers: Please do not accept random comments read in internet forums as fact… don’t be too lazy to play with google to verify ‘facts’…

First of all, good thread, but I need to know once and for all, what is "Prime"??? I see it all the time, "I use prime", "add prime", but what is "Prime"? Is it slang for water conditioner? Is is slang for Dechlor? Is it a brand name? Is it something else? Supposedly it removes ammonia... tell me about that.

Personally I use Stress coat. I do because I was told to. I know some of the arguements, but I am intrigued by idea of real facts on the topic. I went for almost of year of fish keeping(as a noob) without ever treating my water. I know it had chlorine, but I have no idea if it had chloromines, all I know is that it was very hard, lots of minerals. That being said the fish did great. Only after I moved back to this area was it pounded into me to use Stress coat. So I do. I buy it in Gallon jugs.

I use a carbon bottle for water changes. Changing 125 gallons at a time is enough chlorine IMO to cause at least some change in my tank environment. I have found that the carbon bottle works the best of all methods. In smaller tanks I have kept to the idea that anything under a 25% change can be done with no de-chlorinator added.

I have noticed a difference in planted tanks when doing 25% un treated water changes. The plants seem to enjoy this water unbelievably. This may be unbelievable do the the fact that I was raised on needing to either age the water, or add something to make it "safe".

While I enjoy your thread, it is a little difficult to see you defend your side with no knowledge of the water in other people's localities.

I add prime as i am filling the tank directly from the tap and everything is fine. A while back i was doing wc when 2 of my friends show up with a 12 pack i got a buzz and got distracted and forgot to add the prime. I lost a batch of gt growouts they where in a 55gal i do a 50% wc so 27 gal of untreated water killed my cichlids in minutes.

Chango I will have to agree with cchcc that most folks will need prime to keep thier fish alive and healthy. I think u have some different water chemistry going on in Ontario and it will vary in all places evan city to city different water regs and all. Some newbe will read your first post and nothing else and kill thier pets at next wc.
