dechlorinators

I've been using Prime, but have considered Safe. I had an avid fish guy tell me that Safe is good, but you have to be really careful with it because if you add even a little too much you can kill your fish. I don't quite understand how this would happen, any info on whether this is true or not is welcome.

I use a pond dechlorinator from home depot, it was about the same price as the tetra aquasafe at walmart and gives me 4 times the gallonage. But I see that there are better alternatives even to this, seems about equal to prime though.

Also depending on HOW bad the chlorine is in your area..

There is NO need to use dechlorinators.

Is it just like drug overdose? Bump for more info on it...

^^ you'd have to really overdo it, because you can use up to 5g per 100 gallons to detoxify nitrate in an emergency situation. As long as you don't drop the whole tub in the tank, you'd probably be fine.

I've been using Kordon's Nova aqua and just switched over to Prime. Love it, I went through two 1 gallon jugs of kordons in just under a year. Should only go through one 1 gallon jug of Prime this year =]

If Prime is Safe mixed with some water then it's more dilute and harder to overdose if you make a measuring error.

That's what I thought it was, "If Prime is Safe mixed with some water ". His comment didn't make a lot of sense to me, he continued on about how it sucks everything out of the water and that's what kills the fish. I nodded and tuned out after that..
