I just do l x w x h and divide by 231.

Example: 48 x 12 x 21= 12096 / 231 = 52.36g its a little off since its not exact dimensions but it get you in the ballpark.

I don't know about that.....there are many people with happy bare bottom open tank. I do have drift wood and alot of other decor though.

with nothing else, not even decor, I really do not see the over filtered tank I have being a problem.

I assumed from your comment you were going completely bare. Not only do puffers/fish prefer some substrate, many fahakas love to burrow in sand. Fish do not like to see reflections below them, as it seems a predator is following them, hence they stress out all the time.

I do have a nice sand substrate, maybe a few nice rocks, but I just meant decor in general, such a decoration items like a nasty roman centerpiece LOL

I am also setting up a 90 gallon right now, but I am going the poly route. Right now my delhezi and senegal are in my 46 bowfront. Im going to add them and a few more polys/ my knife and red wolf to the 90 gallon. I find it more entertaining to have multiple personalities... for all you know you could get a boring fahka.
