-Decision time-

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am willing to let him destroy my oceanic tank just to keep him alive. We got this!!!! He is in the holding tank....

I want to stand up for AKSKIRMISH I have been his fish person for going on at least 5 years now. I have seen many of his set ups and personally helped him build, transfer upgrade, and start up several tanks.

The Pacu that we are talking about is of monster proportions and It took us a few days to come up with an alternative to him euthanizing it. My partner and I came up with the alternative and we haulted any execution immediately. This fish is very properly taken care of and is the nicest and largest pacu I have ever laid my eyes on and I have seen hundreds of these monsters, I do not even carry them in my store due to the size they get and the fact that everyone I have met can not and will not provide the proper housing for them. I helped AKSKIRMISH set up his 500 gallon just for his pacu because he had out grown his 125 so he more than doubled the size of his home. I do not know any one other than AKSKIRMISH that has literally spent thousands of dollars on such a fish. He feeds it fresh prawns and a mixture of expensive fish and veggies just to make sure he has a proper diet. His home gets a 30-40% water change every week just to maintain the nitrate levels of less than 20ppm. That is a lot of work considering the amount of food he consumes. And yet who else would do such a thing?

EVEN IF HE WERE TO SHIP IT OUT AT THIS POINT IN TIME IN ALASKA WE HAVE A VOLCANO THAT WILL NOT SIT STILL AND HAS GROUNDED FLIGHTS IN AND OUT FOR UP TO TWO WEEKS!!!!

AK gave the fish 5 years of quality life. I know he won't euthanize the fish unless there is no other choice. I'm glad he was able to find a way to keep it alive. However, you can't always keep an animal alive. Even animal shelters have to put animals down. Best of luck David :)

Thanks Sir....

Like I said-I'm not worried about what other's think about me or my situation---But I do know a few here care for the fish and are friends with me......They all know what I have done/provided for this fish...

Anyhow though-----I'm doing what it takes to keep the big guy alive now----I got him transfered to the "holding" tank---Let me say that my pacu took one hell of a beating from the move......He doesn't even look the same to me anymore....Hopefully it makes a full recovery from this.....Hard parts going to be getting him back to the 500 gal.....I almost lost my big guy during the move.....Something up with too much air he took on during the move----He wouldn't stay upright and was listing bad....Running into sides of tank-Was really on his last legs----I worked alittle magic...and the big guy survided the night and is doing well (just looks horrible though)-

I took some pics last night----But they are nnot what I want to post---So I will try for some better pics today----But lets me say-He dwarfs this 150 gal he is in.....

I have had many troubles with this pacu-----But be assured he will survive this.......I look forward to showing pics shortly to those who care....

Thanks Onion for the support-You are one hell of a guy....

Cheers

I've just read the whole thread and it's clear to me that at the heart of this issue is the pacu's quality of life to the keeper. I'm sorry I just don't buy into the theory that someone who's clearly cared for a very large fish for 5 years would decide to euthanize the fish lightly.

Now please forgive my ignorance I'm not too familiar with the original posters fish keeping habits, but I firmly believe in this instance all was considered.

Now I'm at the end of the thread, I'm glad a solution even if it is temporary has been found.

I wish you the best of luck with keeping your big guy going until you can sort the 500 out

Hey man, I originally could not grasp why you would kill a fish you loved. I am not able to admit that I understand your reasons. I did not know that you were in AK and could not find the fish a new home. I can agree with you that if I cannot confirm that the person I am selling a fish to is going to be able to properly care for the fish in question, I will not sell. I commend you on your ethics and wish you and the pacu well!

I am headed down there in about an hour!!!! I have some ideas on how to get around the center brace issues. We can build a support stand so we can cut out the part that is causing the obstruction. YAY!!!! Here we go!!!! We got this we already have the big guy moved!!!!! I think we need to just come up with a game plan and go!!! See you soon my dear.

It was not a decision I was liking to have to make either man....Thankfully we dont have to go that route right now...

Things are starting to look better....Gotta drain the 500 today and rip out the plumbing....Should be a day or two before I fill the tank up again....

what happened to your beautiful silver aro?
